ILLNESS AND INJURY POLICY

Illness

If a child becomes ill while at home it is the parent’s responsibility to inform me. I will then make a decision on whether the child can attend or not.

I will not allow children to attend if they have

*confirmed Covid 19

*a new continuous cough

*a high temperature/fever

*diarrhoea or sickness

*common childhood infections such as chicken pox, measles, etc

*impetigo

*conjunctivitis

*hand foot and mouth

*Any other illness which could be passed on to other children.(please ask if in doubt)

-A child must be symptom free for 48 hours before returning  in the case of diarrhoea and sickness.

-Mild infections and virus , a child must have a normal temperature for at least 24 hours with out the aid of medication.

-Covid 19, 10 days or 2 negative pcr tests on consecutive days .

-Doctor’s advice should be sought for the incubation period of things such as chicken pox.

If a child becomes ill while in my care I will inform parents as soon as possible. Parents will then be expected to arrange for a responsible adult to collect their child as soon as possible. If it is someone I have not met before I will ask for a description and may give a password which then must be used before I can release the child.

Until the child is collected I will keep the child as comfortable as possible and try to minimise contact with any other children present.

Details of fees payable if a child is ill are set out in the parent/childminder contract.

If I or a member of my family is ill I will inform parents as soon as possible. If I am unable to work I will try to help find alternative childcare if needed.

The 24/48 hr rule also applies to myself and family members.

Injury

I hold a current first aid certificate. I will keep this up to date.

Parents are expected to fill out a permission form to allow me to administer first aid if needed or to call for emergency back up in the case of more serious accident/incident.

First aid box is located in the kitchen on top of the fridge freezer. Older children know where it is and are able to access it if necessary.

All accident/injuries will be recoded and parents will be asked to sign. Parents will receive a copy and records will be available for ofsted at my inspection.

These records will fall under my confidentiality policy.

If I am unable to deal with the injury I will seek help from a medical professional.

My emergency backup person in case of an emergency is named in my accident and emergency policy.

Serious illness or injury

Any serious illness or injury will be reported to ofsted.

Some illnesses would need to be reported to environmental health for e.g. food poisoning.

Again, records would be kept.
